Grasping Shards

The OracleThe Goldfish , Two artworks by Kostas Lales , 2022

1) The Oracle, 2022, Plaster with Sand, 14in x 11in x 2in (2 Dimensional Artwork )

Human heads and spots appear through the sand. This work has to do with the imagination of memory. As you observe the ground you see that it has some negative imprints that have been created by humans.

You observe them more carefully and realize that they are dents of value that tell a story. History gives birth to education and education gives birth to faith. When I touch the faith with any kind of art, I feel that my thoughts are imprinted on the earth. So from the work, it gives us the illusion that it is part of our planet.

2) The Goldfish, 2021, Plaster with Acrylic paint, 19.5in x 27.5in x 1in (2 Dimensional Artwork )

The understanding of geometry starts from the senses and the examination of human evolution. When body, geometry and symbols become one the foundation of image and matter is autonomous and sacred. I create sculptural archetypes that present unique characteristics and have their own personalities. I am fascinated by the way time and environmental factors alter our skin and body shape and I am reflecting this transformation in my work.
